"Of course the sad thing about iodine deficiency is that so many of its effects are invisible...An entire generation deprived of 10 IQ points or more may never know what their community and country could become if their mental development had never been affected in this way.

I urge all of you here today not to let that happen to a single child, ever again. By pledging to eliminate iodine deficiency forever, the Network is contributing not only to giving the best possible start in life to children, but to changing people's lives all over the world. Imagine what our world can be if our children are smarter, stronger, contributing more to - and getting more from - their communities and their world. Let's work together to give every child a smart start in life."
