U.N. Special Session on Children, May 8th, 2002. "In 1994 the Parliment passed a law - the Salt Act - which stipulated that all edible salt produced or imported in to the countryhad to be iodated... In the meantime, iodated salt at the household level has now become widely availible. The 1999 evaluation of the program showed that 83.3% of households consumed salt that was iodated... IDD still remains a health problem in many of our countries. This problem can however be eliminated by strengthening the salt iodation program... We are forging effective partnerships among all stakeholders in our respective countries... This can be done, let us play our part!"
